This is a good place to have a look at the best Irish pubs in the city of Glasgow
The Tolbooth Bar, Glasgow Cross.
For over a hundred and fifty years since Irish people have been coming to Glasgow, there have been pubs specifically catering for the needs of the new immigrants to the Merchant City as Glasgow is known. Most of these have been situated in areas like Glasgow Cross, Govanhill, and Garngad. One of the cities most famous and popular is the Tollbooth Bar, at Glasgow Cross, This famous Irish bar dates back to the beginning of the last century and provides the liveliest folk entertainment in the city. Internationally renowned band Crooked Reel play there every weekend as does folk singer Gerry McGregor.Crooked Reel, are one of the most versatile singing bands in the country. The Tollbooth is managed by Dublin born Patrick Leady, who along with his friendly staff provide ''A Ceide Mile Failte'' to all their customers and even if you are only visiting Glasgow for a weekend to do some shopping or to watch a football match at Celtic Park, The Tollbooth is well worth a visit even just to try the Guiness. This pub also provides traditional music every Thursday night and is one of the few pubs with an open turf fire. Many famous Irish authors have said that they have been given inspiration while drinking here these include Sean O'Ciarain, Freddie Anderson, and the late Dominic Behan.
